More than 500 swimmers, cyclists and runners turned out for the 11th annual PolarBear Triathlon and Duathlon Saturday, May 4. A moment of silence was held to honor those lost and injured in the recent Boston Marathon bombings, and students from the College’s a cappella groups sang the national anthem.

The Sugarloaf area is home to some truly wild and rugged terrain. 4,000 foot peaks, roaring rivers, thick bogs, dense forests, and possibly more moose than people. This summer, racers will make their way through all of it when the Untamed New England Adventure Race returns to Sugarloaf on June 22-23. Teams will bike, paddle, and run through the wilderness for 24 consecutive hours, testing their stamina, navigational skills, and mental fortitude as they compete for a spot in the USARA National Championships.

RAID Events LLC, an endurance event and media company, and owners of the RAID Series of Obstacle Races announced that Old Orchard Beach would be the setting of the 2013 Beach RAID. The race will be held on Saturday, September 14th 2013 directly on Old Orchard Beach. Previously held in Kennebunk, the volume of expected racers for this year’s event forced organizers to look into larger beach front locations that could accommodate the rise in participation.

The Maine Sports Commission is excited to be a part of the latest announcement from the NCAA. The NCAA Division III Men's Ice Hockey Committee has selected Lewiston, Maine as the site for the 2014 championship finals. Hosted by Bowdoin College, the semifinals and final will take place at Androscoggin Bank Colisée in Lewiston on March 21-22, 2014.
