PORTLAND, ME, February 28, 2013 – RAID Events LLC, an endurance event and media company, and owners of the RAID Series of Obstacle Races announced today that Old Orchard Beach would be the setting of the 2013 Beach RAID. The race will be held on Saturday, September 14th 2013 directly on Old Orchard Beach. Previously held in Kennebunk, the volume of expected racers for this year’s event forced organizers to look into larger beach front locations that could accommodate the rise in participation.
Old Orchard Beach is one of Maine’s most popular vacation destinations. With a myriad of entertainment choices, OOB has been welcoming visitors to its beautiful 7-mile stretch of sand beach for over 170 years. The Beach is very accessible from route 95, maintains a stop on the Amtrak Downeaster Line and also has ample parking within walking distance of the starting line. Set against the scenic charm of some of the country’s most idyllic seaside communities,
Beach RAID utilizes deep sand, beach themed obstacles and a cycle of punishing boot camp stations.
This marks the first of multiple new location announcements for the RAID Series in 2013. Expansion plans include new events strategically placed along the eastern seaboard.
The RAID is an obstacle race series comprised of the Urban RAID, Beach RAID, and Mountain RAID and was founded in Maine in 2011. Set in distinct geographic environments each RAID challenges the physical fitness and mental toughness of participants and their ability to adapt to unique conditions and landscapes.
